"Aging In Place"
"Aging In Place" refers to the choice an older adult makes to stay in an environment that is familiar and safe. The familiar environment is a wonderful choice for many older adults because it requires little new learning. The environment supports long-standing habits; from the height of the rise of the steps to which direction to turn on the faucet or flip on the lights. The familiar environment is particularly valued by older adults with low vision or minimal cognitive impairment; occupational therapy can help these older adults age in place safely.
