Staying at Home

"Aging In Place"

"Aging In Place" refers to the choice an older adult makes to stay in an environment that is familiar and safe.  The familiar environment is a wonderful choice for many older adults because it requires little new learning.  The environment supports long-standing habits; from the height of the rise of the steps to which direction to turn on the faucet or flip on the lights.  The familiar environment is particularly valued by older adults with low vision or minimal cognitive impairment; occupational therapy can help these older adults age in place safely.

Area Agency on Aging

Our therapists work closely with the professionals at the Area Agency on Aging; clients who are on Medicaid can receive services through PASSPORT and still receive the skilled occupational therapy services needed.

Summa's Center for Senior Health

The gerontologists and specialists at the Center for Senior Health (CSH) provide a comprehensive medical evaluation that provides us with an excellent foundation for an aging-in-place home evaluation.  We enjoy receiving referrals from the doctors at Summa CSH, because their work provides us with an excellent foundation for the design of a meaningful occupational therapy program.
