LOW VISION
Occupational Therapists work with clients and families
to develop strategies to make DOING things safe and enjoyable.
Losing vision causes many people to withdraw from participating in life;
the sense of vulnerability and the lack of visual feedback
decreases the person's desire to explore environments.
Occupational therapists work with clients to set goals for DOING,
and provide a safe environment for exploring and developing skills and confidence necessary for DOING. We provide the support to develop confidence in independent living.
Intervention includes:
•Recommendations for environmental modifications
•Simple tactile cues - BUMPS placed on appliances
•Training in use of optical aids in the home and community
•Instruction in APPS for the visually impaired (such as BeMyEyes, Seeing AI)
•Training in the use of Ray Ban Meta Glasses [Smart Glasses]
•Training in the use of Electronic reminders [such as Alexa]
•Exploring the need for Remote Monitoring with sensors to identify problems
•Training in accessibility features for smartphones, iPads and computers
•Training in how to access ZOOM groups
•ZOOM groups with others who have low vision
If you or your loved one has tools that are not being used,
an Occupational Therapist can help.
