Natalia wrote the following about her experience with us:

“Over the past few months, from May 2024 to July 2024, I had the amazing opportunity to work as a Rehab Aide/occupational therapy intern at Rehab Educators. I am studying exercise and sports science at Queens University of Charlotte, hoping to pursue a career in occupational therapy. Working at Rehab Educators further reassured me of my career goals and showed me how important occupational therapy is. I worked closely with Mary Jo McGuire, who is an outstanding occupational therapist who taught me something new each day. Her stories alone taught me so much, but she also took me along with her to a variety of sessions allowing me to gain a lot of hands-on experience. I had the opportunity to interact with a variety of clients overcoming cognitive and physical impairments. The client base ranged in age and abilities, highlighting the vast scope of occupational therapy. I experienced client growth and saw the great effect the therapists at Rehab Educators have on their clients. This internship went above my expectations and will give me an edge as I continue to pursue a career in occupational therapy.”

Thank you to all of the clients who shared their stories and time with Natalia!  We need occupational therapists who are committed to really caring about people participating in life.

Professional Education/Pre-Occupational Therapy Internship

Elizabeth Miryam Joy McGuire was a senior at Walsh University completing her baccalaureate studies with a major in Professional Education when she completed an internship with Rehab Educators during the fall of 2020, serving as an OT Aide.  She worked with a variety of types of clients with an OTR in their homes and in the OT clinic.  She also completed a special project with the seventh grade students at St. Hilary School in Fairlawn.  Beth studied American Sign Language (ASL) prior to entering college, and completed 3 college level courses in ASL at Walsh.  She was invited by Mrs. Trish Hoffman to teach the 7th graders at St. Hilary's about the deaf culture, and to instruct them in some sign language.  Beth prepared lesson plans, taught the students to sign the Our Father, and instructed them in how to sign a special song that the students sang to promote diversity and respect for all.

Beth is certified as a Registered Behavioral Technician and serves children with autism at the IDEA House in Canal Fulton as well as specialized tutoring to a child with severe brain injury through her work with NorthCoast Educational Services in Cleveland

*Beth prepared the video below during this internship for the seventh grade students to practice signing the song, "Together We Can Change the World."
